In 1999 the law 'On Standardization and Certification' was revised taking into account the evolution of Kazakhstan and market reforms, and a new law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Standardization' was adopted, which on 10 June 2003 was substantially modified and integrated.

This law regulates public relations in the field of standardization, defines the legal framework for the State Standardization System and measures to protect the interests of the State and consumers in the quality of products, processes (works) and services through the development and the application of normative documents on standardization.

The main objective of the law is to establish measures of state protection of the interests of consumers and the state with regard to the quality and safety of products, processes (works) and services through the development and application of regulatory documents on standardization that establish requirements, rules, norms and state control over the implementation of the mandatory requirements of the standards in their application.

The provisions of the law are mandatory for implementation by all state bodies, subject to economic or other activities, regardless of the form of ownership and public associations

The legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on standardization is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and consists of this law and other regulatory acts.

In the development of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Standardization', the State Standardization System of the Republic of Kazakhstan (SSSRK) was developed, which is a set of government bodies, natural and legal persons that carry out activities in the field of standardization, including in the field of product cataloging, within their competence, normative documents that establish the procedure for carrying out standardization work in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
